We’re Smart Commuters
This year, Cuberis is proudly a participating employer in GoTriangle.org’s Smart Commute Challenge 2011! Out of the 6 of us in the office, 3 of us already “smart commute” by riding bikes, taking local public transit (DATA and TTA), and tele-commuting.
About a month ago, I sold my car and have since been thrown into the wonderful world of using maps, timetables, and my own two legs to get where I need to go. Partially inspired and entirely encouraged by Andrew, who has lived in the Traingle without a car for the last year(ish), I now regularly bike to and from work on the fantastic American Tobacco Trail an average of 3 times per week and take the bus the rest of the week.
There are so many advantages to not being in a car for between 30-45 minutes per day. Not only am I saving my hard earned cash by not paying for gas or car maintenance, but I get all this built in exercise. Even if I take the bus, I still have to walk about a half mile to get to and from the bus stop in my neighborhood. I also get to experience more of what Durham has to offer, like the free Bull City Connector, which today took me from the downtown station all the way to Mad Hatter Cafe and back to our office at Golden Belt in under 30 minutes. Best of all, I’ve probably seen a grand total of 15 rabbits (make that 17!) and 10,000 cardinals this year. How can being more connected to nature and my community not make me happier than sitting in traffic grumbling about the other drivers?
With April ending soon, May is almost upon us and that means it’s almost Bike to Work Month! There are so many biking events in the Triangle that are sure to be a blast. Do you have a bike longing for you to ride it again? Why not check out this calendar and give your bike the ol’ pedalroo?
